Achieving victory has become a result of the effort of a competent coach who adopts the use of various methods and scientific methods and chooses the best of them in order to raise the technical, mental and physical levels of his players. Recently, there has been increased interest in mental aspects from specialists in psychology, researchers and sports coaches due to its importance in improving the speed of learning and developing motor skills among athletes. .
Sports events, including basketball, depend on basic skills as an important base for progress, so that coaches spend most of their time training on performing these skills, teaching them, and giving them a greater share in training programs. But long, violent hours of physical training is not the only way to learn motor skills. There are many ways and methods that help to quickly learn and acquire motor skills, including the use of exercises similar to competitions. These exercises work to create a real competitive atmosphere between players and are characterized by learning under psychological pressure and Physical, hence the importance of research in the use of competition exercises as a means that helps in learning the skill and consolidating it for a long time and considering it as a supporting and complementary part of it.
As for the research problem, it was summed up in the fact that physical training only on the performance of motor skills is not sufficient to learn and master them fully. As the training process in the field of sports depends mainly on physical-mental interdependence, and diversification in the use of its methods, and this requires attention to both sides and focus on the mental aspects, especially during learning new skills, and the researcher used the experimental approach (two equal groups) for its suitability to the nature and objectives of this study. The research sample included (12) players in the Air Defense Club, ages (14-15) years. The sample was chosen by the intentional method. The researcher concluded the following: - Competition exercises have a positive effect on my skills (switching, covering) in defense for young basketball players.
